►Twist & Twirl
Ages 3-5. In this introductory pre-ballet class, age appropriate dance concepts will be creatively presented using poems, stories and world music. JCCGW Preschool children will be picked up from their classrooms and taken to the dance studio for class at 3 p.m.

►Dance and the Magic Box
Ages 3-5. Explore dance concepts through the Magic Box filled with tricks of our trade with Rachel Knudson, Wolf Trap teacher for "Learning Through the Arts". Music, props, art, non-competitive games and creatively presented activities are used as tools for learning the basics of dance.

►Ballet/Modern/Creative Movement
Grade K-1 & 2-4. Students learn simple ballet terms through exercises and creative explorations that develop an understanding of the elements of dance. Through the use of props, instruments and a variety of music, students will create short dances. Lessons develop movement skills, use dance terminology and provide opportunities for creative explorations. This class culminates with a dance performance.

►Beginning Tap
Grade K-2. Coordination and rhythm skills will be developed while learning introductory tap steps. Students will build listening skills, learn tap vocabulary, and connect movement response to sound and sequencing. Students should remain in this section for at least two years unless notified by instructor.

►Intermediate Tap
Grade 3-5. Students review tap basics, such as shuffleball change, flaps, cramp rolls and buffalo, then move on to time step, essence, varioius riffs and developed sequencing. Emphasis will be placed on listening, moving to count, and learning tap combinations. Students should stay in this section for three years unless notified by the instructor.

►Intermediate/Advanced Tap
Grade 5-9. The upbeat music in this fast-paced class encourages the development of good listening skills and quick response. Student are challenged with complicated combinations. Tap vocabulary increases as skills rapidly advance. Students are accepted with teacher's approval and should remain in this section for at least three years.

►Putting It Together for Showbiz
Gr. 4-6. Students can show their talent with a flourish of Broadway. After stretching and a basic warm-up, the class will be lead through dance combinations based on movement and music of familiar Broadway Shows. Students will have the opportunity to explore their creative ideas as they learn basic choreographic and performance elements common to dance and theatre.

►Alvin Mayes
Instructor Alvin Mayes, a member of the dance faculty at the University of Maryland, is well known as a choreographer and dancer. He has been featured in works by Eric Hampton, Doug Varone and Doris Humphrey. He has created works for his own dance company, Alvin & Karen, as well as works for many companies such as Maryland Youth Ballet, CityDance Ensemble and CrossCurrents Dance. His classes are enjoyable, flowing and challenging.
